Design: style with a purpose

Remember the first dozen times I started a blog and I said that I had finally gotten serious? Okay. Forget all that. NOW I’m serious. I swear.

There’s this really neat online program called Textpattern. It’s a CMS (aka Content Management System) that allows any monkey to put together a sophisticated website while knowing squat about web design or programming.

Now, I’m no monkey. I’ve been doing web sites for years using professional tools and in this case I’m not using a CMS despite what I already know, but rather to be able to do things that are very, very cool and require a great deal more knowledge about programming without the hassle of hand-coding at length.

There are literally dozens upon dozens of CMSes out there, but this seems to be (to me at least) a really easy-to-use, very flexible system and I’m right now christening it. This is really moving up in the world. I hope someday to build much more sophisticated websites with application-like functionality while allowing me more time spent with my wife and dog than with my nose buried in an instructional manual.

And you can leave comments. Like a real blog. No kidding. It’s so cool. Woohoo.

There will be more to come, so stay tuned.
